Setting up the Pogmoor Area Residents’ Association: councillors’ views

7 05 2011

The Pogmoor area community maps onto two electoral wards: Old Town and Darton West.  We contacted the six councillors who represent these two wards to request their views on setting up a residents’ association for the community.

Here are their responses:

Darton West

Cllr Linda Burgess recorded a short interview.  You can view it here.

Cllr Sharon Howard: “I would certainly give my support to your residents group.  The 3 Darton West councillors have helped to form a number of community groups in our ward. They have offer a real sense of community and also act as a strong voice for that community.”

Cllr Alice Cave: “I would be pleased to help you in any way I can. Community Groups are a really good way of networking and supporting each other.”

Cllr Jack Carr: “The people of Pogmoor have always had a good community spirit, the Residents  Association  I am sure will help to mould this Community spirit even more. I would like to wish the residents association the best of luck in this endevavour. I along with my two colleagues support a number of community groups within our Dodworth Ward, and attend meetings for, and with them. If you require help in the future please do not hesitate to contact me, you have my full and continued support.”

Old Town

Cllr Bill Gaunt recorded a short interview.  You can view it here.

Cllr Penny Lofts: “I was unable to hear CLLR Burgess’ video link but I do feel it is a brilliant idea setting up a resients association. You will not only be able to fight local problems from an organised stance but build on a community spirit. The community is already there but perhaps previously in a more fragmented form-little pockets thinking they are on their own.The plus side is with a properly formed association with a constitution you can access funding which would otherwise be unavailable.”

Cllr Anita Cherryholme: “I think that the residents association is an excellent idea. Setting up this association will strengthen the community and help tackle local issues and concerns. It will also provide a voice to the residents of Pogmoor. I will certainly pledge my support and active involvement.”
