The closure of the hospital club

13 08 2012

It has been announced this week that the hospital club is closing down at the end of September.  This is the largest community venue in the Gawber and Pogmoor area.  Indeed it was the venue for the ‘Gypsy planning’ meeting that resulted in the formation of the residents’ association. It is very sad to see another hall disappear following the demise of the Pogmoor club and the Friendship pub.

The hospital chief executive, Paul O’Connor, speaking to the Barnsley Chronicle (13th July, 2012),  said: ‘it is a shame that there’s just not enough business for it to remain open.”  What are your views about this closure?  Is the chief executive correct that this community isn’t large enough to sustain a hall of this size with a rent of £3000 per month?

Please let us know what you think.

Statement regarding planning application 2010/1452

8 04 2011

Notice

Planning application 2010/1452 for the erection of a 20 pitch gypsy and traveller site on West Road was withdrawn on Thursday 7/4/11.

The residents who co-ordinated and monitored the opposition to the application wish to thank everyonein the Pogmoor area for their support. Also the businesses that provided a communication link during this period.

Donations made to a possible fighting fund raised£326.59. The only expense was £25.00 for the hire ofthe Hospital Social Club.  This leaves £301.59 to be donated to Barnsley Hospice.

The surprise response, determination and interest has shown that there is a need in Pogmoor for a Residents’ Association. Once further information has been obtained regarding the formation details, residents will be notified immediately via emails, notices etc.

The pogmoorara@gmail.com link will also be kept open.

Thank You
